Work and Life Coach

How coaching can help you

Coaching works because it’s all about you. When you connect with what you really want and why, and take action, great things can happen.

But there’s no magic spell. Coaching is a learning tool in which I support a person to work towards and achieve a goal through self-awareness and development. The essence of coaching is unlocking a person’s potential to maximise their own performance.

The coaching relationship takes place via a series of one to one sessions where I facilitate the conversation to focus the person on defining and achieving a goal.

Coaching can help you to

  • Discover, clarify, and align the things you want to achieve

  • Have a dedicated space, where you are listened to, and it’s all about you

  • Generate solutions and strategies that are right for you

  • Be pushed and held responsible and accountable

About me

I’m a coach because I really care about people. I have a sincere interest in humans. I help people to make sense of the jumble and get to the heart of what will truly move them forwards. I have a talent for cutting through the noise and helping people to focus on specific goals that will push them up towards achieving their ambitions.

I’ve coached professionals in the arts, creative industries, learning, marketing and students. I’ve lived in Europe and the UK and understand from my own experience how tough it can be to stay motivated and keep moving towards achieving the things that will make you happy.

In my spare time I work with the LGBTQ+ community to talk through the issues, challenges and worries they face in their daily lives.

I trained as a coach with the Development Partnership and hold the ILM qualification in coaching, where I focused on workplace and career coaching. I’m a member of the Association for Coaching UK. I’m also a Senior Manager in the UK’s largest arts centre, an experienced training facilitator, and have managed hundreds of people throughout my career.

I’m fascinated by human stories and how the mind works, and find nothing more fulfilling than helping someone flourish and achieve their dreams.

Services

I offer coaching sessions either face to face in London, or via Skype / Zoom. My preference is to coach in person, either in East London where I live, or in Central London where I work. However, online coaching allows the flexibility to be coached wherever you are, and to fit around your schedule.

Everyone is different, and the amount of coaching sessions will vary. The minimum amount of sessions I can do is 3, going up to a maximum of 10.

Areas that we might focus on include:

  • Career planning and progression

  • Moving into a new role

  • Time management and personal impact

  • Managing relationships at work

  • Working out your life purpose and aligning your goals

  • Setting short term and long term goals

  • Establishing good habits

  • Identifying your core values

  • Confidence boosting

My coaching style

I’m naturally optimistic and believe in the people I work with. I’ll sometimes tell you what you need to hear, rather than what you want to hear. I’m known as a straight talker and I use clear language and questions. I’m a great listener, and I’m kind and empathetic. It’s my job to put you at ease so you are comfortable to open up and get to the heart of the issue. I’ll ask questions to help you to learn, but I won’t tell you what to do. I get a buzz out of nudging people out of their comfort zone, coming up with a plan, and putting that plan into action. If you are committed to being coached then I will be your biggest champion and cheerleader, holding you to account but encouraging you all the way.

Praise

Going in to this process I was a bit uncertain. I had hit a career crossroads and lost track of what aspects I enjoyed and the lines of my personal values had become blurred, but I was also to proud to accept that I couldn’t sort this on my own. Coincidentally I saw Matt’s LinkedIn post and decided to drop a quick message with the side thought of “I don’t have to do it, but I’ll have the chat...”
As soon as I spoke with Matt on the phone everything became clear that I did need help to re-focus and the level of skill Matt had in making me realise that and putting me at ease just from a phone call, I knew that there would be five good sessions to come so I signed up instantly.
Working back through my work history as well as plotting my career goals and direction, Matt soon got me to a point of clarity of what I enjoy, who I am and how I want to be and I have no doubt that this was the basis for me not only taking on a new job in the new year but also taking on a role as a School Governor. Two things I could not see happening that the start of the process.
Through all my work with Matt I am now going in to the new opportunities with a sense of clarity, a reconnect with my vision and values that brought me so much success previously and a sense of excitement about managing a large team again.
Essentially, Matt’s the greatest coach you will find and you will never question the decision to work with him.
— Matt, London
From the outset the initial call is a great leveller and can make you feel relaxed about the process and I’m sure it’s the same for you. When I went in to this I wasn’t too sure and it’s a hard thing to admit that you’re at a bit of a career conundrum so having that opportunity to answer and ask questions meant I could give myself some clarity and know that it was a good thing to do and that working with you will be comfortable and for my benefit.
After that things just naturally flowed, it gave you a starting point, I had a grasp of what I wanted to achieve and from minute one of the first session you made it comfortable and it was always a surprise when the hour was up.
You also bought coffee for each meeting which helps! It also means I owe you one.
— Matt, London
Since being coached by Matt, I feel that I have more control and direction in my role. My confidence and resilience have dramatically improved as well as how I view myself and my career. During my time being coached, I was able to continually build upon the sessions that we had as well as reflecting without out overthinking. I have erased the doubts and fears that I once had regarding my sector and where I belonged. I highly recommend Matt as a coach.
— Alex, London
Matt was an amazing coach and helped me to grow my confidence in the start of my career. His style is authentic and very attentive. I would highly recommend him to all of my peers who seek guidance in their career.
— Fiona, London
Matt is intuitive and a great listener. I felt instantly at ease in his presence, I was able to reflect and focus on what is important and what motivates me. He facilitated a safe space to contemplate practical steps and envisage positive change. I came away buoyed by my experience.
— Becky, London
Before meeting Matt I lacked confidence, was scared to take chances and held myself back with hypothetical ‘what if’s’. Over the space of 7 months Matt helped me; overcome my self-doubt, find my motivation, learn to set proper goals (with deadlines and everything!) and ultimately achieve some pretty epic wins in a relatively short space of time!
I’ve started dance teaching which I’d previously considered a dream rather than a reality, got a job that I otherwise wouldn’t have felt confident enough to apply for and I’ve set myself a realistic, manageable plan for the next 3 years to keep me on track. In short, Matt is an amazing coach he’s approachable, friendly and most importantly supportive! Without him none of the above would have been possible. Thanks Matt I owe you one!
— Chantel, London
When I first met with Matt I was at a period in my life where I was really unsure of the next step in my life/the general direction I was heading. Even from the first session Matt really enabled me to identify which areas I wanted to focus on and the steps I could take to improve those aspects of my life.
Coaching with Matt really helped to make me feel more empowered in my life and more certain. I noticed the progress I was making from each session and over a longer period of time the things we had discussed started to come about in my life, by the focus and action I was making, that coaching with Matt had enabled. I definitely would recommend it!
— Tim, London
Matt has helped me to reconnect with that I actually want to do, and find the clarity I needed to take a new step in my career path. Before I began the coaching process I was frustrated and fed up with my career, but also didn’t know how to resolve this. Now that I have finished my sessions I have had two major realisations in terms of what I want to do with my life and my career and have a structured plan of how to achieve this. Matt has helped me find this clarity and confidence and I could not recommend him enough. It feels like you’re chatting with a friend for an hour but by the end of the session you realise how much progress you’ve made and how many knots have been untangled.
— Ellie, London
Talking to Matt was as easy as talking to a friend, if not easier. He listened to all of my struggles with compassion and helped me to break down my obstacles into manageable steps that were easier to overcome. He helped me to realise and align my values, not only in terms of my work but in my life in general. His useful tips and pointers made, what felt to me like daunting tasks, a lot less frightening. His reassurance, guidance and support have been invaluable in helping me pave the way to a happier more fulfilling career.
— Kate, London
I approached Matt in summer 2020 because I felt I was stuck on autopilot. I had ideas for new areas I wanted to develop and things I wanted to change but I could also clearly see that months were passing and I wasn’t starting or developing any of them. In fact, sometimes my plans or ideas seemed to contradict each other, and it all seemed a huge tangle. Within a couple of sessions with Matt I was suddenly very clear about the things I wanted to prioritise over the next year. Over some more sessions I’ve been progressing these and it’s a wonderful feeling to see things shift off the back burner and start to happen. I liked Matt’s style a lot - I’d describe him as pragmatic, clear, structured, attentive, caring and warm
— James, Leyton
Matt helped me untangle my thoughts and create a clear structure to help me get the most out of my first few months in a new job. He asked lots of questions, gave me space to reflect on everything I had achieved and helped me create a clear path to move forwards with. Working with Matt gave me back the confidence I had lacked in previous months and alleviated a lot of the anxiety I had around starting a new chapter. On top of all that, Matt is incredibly warm and easy to talk to, you’ll look forward to your sessions with him!
— Emma, London
